Prestigious Yellow Nembro Marble High Relief depicting the Lion of St. Mark with the Open Book. The work was completely worked and carved by hand. Provenance Venice, private collection. Note the precision, attention to detail, and definition of detail. The anatomy of the lion is carved with much accuracy (nails, muscles, mane and wings). There are numerous possible symbolic interpretations regarding the combination of lion and book; in this case, the open book alone is considered a symbol of state sovereignty. However, such interpretations are not universally accepted since the Serenissima never codified its symbols represented in an unambiguous way. The gospel has engraved the classic Latin phrase that translated means "Peace to you, Mark, my Evangelist." Medium in size, well proportioned and of appropriate weight. It can be hung on the wall very easily with the help of some old irons, or it can be placed on top of a piano. Its medium size makes it easy to place, especially inside the home, but also outside. The item is in excellent condition, completely intact in all its parts. Lot more unique than rare, of magnificent quality and workmanship, refined and elegant, but at the same time powerful and muscular. Of prestigious and noble workmanship. Beautiful marble sculpture depicting Apollo del Belvedere. Provenance Venice, private collection. The work depicts the Greek god Apollo, who has just killed the serpent Python with the arrows of his bow. His muscles, still tense, hint at the exertion following the battle against Python, while his ringlet hair falls fluidly over his neck and elegantly gathered on his head, which is encircled by strophium, an ornamental band symbolizing a deity or king. The god is entirely nude, with the exception of his shoulder quiver, sandals, and cloak wrapped around his right shoulder, which spills over his left arm and part of his back.
