Beautiful marble sculpture depicting Apollo del Belvedere.
Provenance Venice, private collection.
The work depicts the Greek god Apollo, who has just killed the serpent Python with the arrows of his bow. His muscles, still tense, hint at the exertion following the battle against Python, while his ringlet hair falls fluidly over his neck and elegantly gathered on his head, which is encircled by strophium, an ornamental band symbolizing a deity or king. The god is entirely nude, with the exception of his shoulder quiver, sandals, and cloak wrapped around his right shoulder, which spills over his left arm and part of his back.
Perfect as a piece of furniture, medium in size, proportionate.
Beautiful quality and workmanship.
Intact in all its parts.
