'Cathedral' sculpture by Ronald Mariën

'Cathedral' is a sculpture made up of a wooden grid in which curved wooden slats are attached. The wooden slats are fixed with wooden blocks, which gives a wabisabi feeling to this work of art. The artist also likes to work with shadows, when you light the artwork you get a beautiful spectacle projected on the wall. Ronald Mariën born in Lier (Belgium) in 1953, is an artist and scientist, at the moment he mainly makes abstract sculptures from mostly recycled materials (such as wood), almost all his artworks are made from curved wooden slats which are steamed in a homemade oven designed by Ronald himself.

Large sculpture made of Belgian bluestone by Hubert Boeraeve (Ostend Belgium 1950). This sculpture shows a human figure with hanging shoulders and head. The sculpture is a nice contrast between smooth and rough surfaces, and has a nice balance between fine and robust parts. Hubert Boeraeve makes sculptures in stone and wood, he tries to show us figures in a non figurative way. A lot of his artworks are inspired by humanity. This artwork was made early 1980' s.
